Build Diary: Guardian Home Extension

Week five in the diary of a Guardian Home Extension build in Dublin.
We’re now five weeks into Sara and Stephen’s Guardian Home Extension with VELUX roof windows build. With the exterior of the build almost there, this week saw internal decoration begin along with external landscaping. If you missed the previous instalments, you might want to catch up on Guardian Home Extension: Week Four Build Diary. Read on to see how week five went.

Let’s hear from the homeowner

I’m finding that every week brings big changes in the progress of our build. It’s quite amazing to think that only five weeks into the build the inside is painted and our kitchen is being fitted. Outside is also changing for the better; our raised lawn is taking shape and we can now get a feel for the patio space we’ve gained. I honestly cannot wait for it all to be completed.

Build week five

We ended last week with the Guardian Home Extension build finished. All that was remaining was the internal decoration and external landscaping. Internally, progress this week has begun to transform the build into a beautiful home. Outside, a lot of digging out made way for hardcore and block work. Week five has seen:
  • Internal painting complete.
  • Final fix for lighting and plumbing completed.
  • Kitchen fitting commenced.
  • External landscaping started.

Day one

With the build of the Guardian Home Extension finished, this week kicked off with external ground work commencing. The initial patio space was dug out and hardcore laid ready for slabs to be laid at a later date.

Day two and three

The blocks for the lawn supporting wall arrived on day two, but before any walls could be built there was the big job of digging out the patio area. By the end of day three, the patio shape was taking form; a significant amount of soil had been removed, the space was levelled and hardcore laid across most of the area.

Day four

Inside the new Guardian Home Extension, great progress was made by day four. The interior had been painted throughout, as well as lighting and radiators fitted. Most striking is the kitchen fitting; the white portion of kitchen had been installed across the boundary of the original house and the new Guardian Home Extension – it highlights how much usable space had been gained as a result of this build.

Day five

By the close of play on day five the remaining hardcore was laid, ready for the new patio. Block work for the lawn supporting wall was also well under way with it being completed to lawn height across the full width of the garden space.

What’s next?

We’re now five weeks into the Guardian Home Extension build and we’re at the stage where decoration has started. Inside, painting is complete and the kitchen fitting has commenced. Outside, external landscaping has seen a portion of the lawn removed and levelled ready for a patio, as well as a supporting wall installed to hold what will now be a raised lawn area.

All that remains inside is to finish the kitchen installation, and lay the flooring. Outside, the lawn supporting wall is yet to be finished, and the patio still needs to be laid. Join us next week as this Guardian Home Extension build in it’s final stages.
